upon searching to see if there was a facebook mashup out there in the web, i came up with all these links featuring a program called “skype” that facebook is joined up with. apparently, windows users can use this program to further connect with the people in their social network, calling them through facebook becoming an option when based on their skype profile. the app is trying to “stay simple” claims the description but is allows you to other people’s online status and call them which, to me, seems over the top and semi invasive. this article and this article both discuss the problems people are having with skype.

Hey Meg! I saw this really awesome pretzel today while I was working register and I thought of you.
Anyways, I’ve been hearing all about skype lately–mostly cause this friend of mine is always using it to talk to his girlfriend, who’s in Lux. The funny thing is, they weren’t “official” (as in “in a relationship” on facebook–because it isn’t real until it’s on facebook) until after she had left.
Now, why begin a relationship right before being separated by an entire ocean+? My theory is she was afraid to be away from home so she chose to cling to my friend as a sort of “emotional anchor” if you will. We all give him hell about it, but seriously, he’s a good guy and I’m happy for him. That’s why when I randomly bust into his room (which I do from time to time when I’m bored), only to see him skyping with her, I try to cut back the playful ridicule to a sigh or a really corny joke.
Anyways, skype has helped them keep together during the cold, lonely months so it can’t be all bad, right? Maybe if the developers toned down the stalker-friendly stuff, people wouldn’t be so hard on it?
By the way, do you know what skype stands for? I’d look it up myself, but I guess I kinda feel lazy. (Plus, if you comment on my blog, it makes me look cool).

    Thanks, bye

I agree. The facebook app seems a little weird but after a summer abroad, I can speak firsthand for its many wonders. Calling abroad is almost impossible and even though skype creeped me out at first (you are staring at the person through your webcam…) it saved my sanity when I started to miss home and needed to speak English.
